Service Delivery Site Operating in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Tuesday, June 17, 2008 – Since the disastrous flooding struck this area one week ago, the primary focus of American Red Cross relief efforts has been providing emergency sheltering, feeding, and first aid to those impacted by the disaster.
Now that floodwaters are receding, the Red Cross is opening a Service Delivery Site at:
- Westdale Mall, 2600 Edgewood Rd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404
- Hours: Wednesday, June 18 opening 12 noon – 6 p.m. daily (until further notice) 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Individuals or families will be able to meet one-on-one with a trained interviewer to help determine needs and provide urgently-needed assistance. Assistance may cover groceries, clothing, medicines, and rent depending on your circumstances. Red Cross mental health services may also provide counseling and/or referrals to other resources to aid in your recovery. In partnership with the Church of the Brethren Disaster Child Care, free child care will be offered during the interview process.
Individuals or families who apply to the Red Cross for assistance must provide some form of identification showing their pre-disaster address, as proof that they lived in the area affected by the disaster.
Additionally at that location, clean-up kits will be available containing brooms, scrub brushes, rubber gloves, buckets and disinfectant water. People may also pick up information on what to do after a flood and on other resources in the community.
Those unable to come to the Service Delivery Site, or who need other information about Red Cross assistance for disaster victims, should call the Red Cross Hotline at: 1-866-GET-INFO. TDD 1-800-526-1417 for hearing impaired callers
