CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Monday, June 23, 2008 – As Red Cross workers have helped flood-displaced individuals and families in Waverly locate more comfortable housing, the Red Cross shelter at Wartburg College is not currently needed. The shelter, at 100 Wartburg Blvd., closes today.
Residents in the area who find they need housing due to flood-related conditions can call the Red Cross at 1-866-GET-INFO (438-4636) toll-free to get help.
Meanwhile, Red Cross shelters are still open at:
• University of Northern Iowa, West Gymnasium, 2501 Minnesota St., Cedar Falls
• Viola Gibson Elementary School, 6101 Gibson Drive NE, Cedar Rapids
• Prairie High School, 401 76th Ave., Cedar Rapids
• North West Junior High School, 1507 8th St., Coralville
• Johnson County Fairgrounds, 4261 Oakcrest Hill Road SE, Building A, Iowa City
• West Burlington High School, 211 Ramsey St., West Burlington
Residents can also use 1-866-GET-INFO (438-4636) to get emergency assistance with groceries, clothing, medicine or transportation.
As the situation continues to evolve, the Red Cross will adjust shelter locations to best accommodate those in affected areas.
