CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Sunday, June 22, 2008 – American Red Cross volunteers are finishing client assistance interviews at two sites in the Cedar Falls area. On Monday, June 23, the Red Cross will close two Service Delivery Sites at 6 p.m.

Residents who still have emergency needs are urged to call the Red Cross Information Line toll free at 1-866-GET-INFO (438-4636) to schedule personal interviews with trained disaster workers still in the area.

Service Delivery Sites will close at:
• 220 Brandilynn Blvd.; Mattress King building across from Blain’s Farm & Fleet, Cedar Falls
• 100 Wartburg Blvd., Waverly

Services will continue at:
• Westdale Mall, 2600 Edgewood Road SW, Cedar Rapids; former Osco’s store next to JC Penney
• American Red Cross of Quad Cities, 1100 River Drive, Moline, Ill.
Red Cross caseworkers are also driving through impacted areas of Mason City to meet with people as they begin their cleanup.

As the flooding situation continues to develop, the Red Cross will open Service Delivery Sites to serve affected residents. Individuals will meet one-on-one with trained caseworkers to determine the emergency assistance they can receive. Applicants for assistance should bring proof of their pre-disaster residency.

Red Cross continues to expand services across Iowa and in the Quad Cities area as needs emerge for shelters, meals, snacks, clean-up supplies, physical and mental health services and individual client assistance.

Red Cross volunteers will be handing out cleanup supplies and other bulk items from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at:

  • Sycamore Mall, 1676 Sycamore St., Iowa City
  • L&M Elementary School, 14506 170th St., Letts
  • Solid Rock Baptist Church, 14041 Locust St., Wapello

Red Cross caseworkers are also driving through impacted areas of Mason City to meet with people as they begin their cleanup.

“Safe and Well” website: If you’ve been affected by a disaster, the Red Cross encourages you to register yourself as “safe and well” on http://www.RedCross.org. From a list of standard messages, you can select what you want to communicate to family members and friends, to let them know of your well-being. If internet access is not available, you can call 1(866) GET-INFO to register.

Red Cross services in Iowa to date (through June 21):

  • The Red Cross and its partner organizations have opened 28 shelters with more than 4,400 overnight stays.
  • Served nearly 300,000 meals and snacks.
  • Fielded 41 emergency response vehicles and more than 1,250 Red Cross workers.
  • Made some 6,300 first aid and mental health contacts.
  • Distributed nearly 11,500 cleanup kits.
